Workshop on “Using Modern Technology and Procedure for wheat cultivation”
Date: 17 November, 2008
Venue: BWRI (Bangladesh Wheat Research Institute), Dinajpur.

Dinajpur is one of the main areas of sources of food in Bangladesh. It supplies a huge amount of paddy, wheat, sugarcane etc. But day by day the production of the wheat is decreasing and the main reason is farmers are not interest to grow wheat in their field. They think that other crops are more profitable for them. But wheat is the best crops for them because it is easy to grow and took less fertilizer and water which is good for the farmers. Besides this it has demand in the national market to make flour. So to make the farmers interest to grow wheat a Workshop on “Using Modern Technology and Procedure for wheat cultivation” organized by both of CDA Pallitathya Kendra and Babrijhar Pallitathya Kendra which is supported by ACI Pure Flour Limited at BWRI (Bangladesh wheat research Institute).

Program registration was started at 9:30am whereas main program kicked off at 10:00pm.
Dr. Monjur Rahman, Chief Scientific officer, BWRI, Dinajpur was the chaired in the workshop and he officially inaugurated the workshop. Chief Guest was Dr. Ananya Raihan, Executive Director, D.Net; Special guest were Sattajit Das Barman, Procurement Manager, ACI Pure Flour Limited; Harun Al Rashid, Managing Director, Venture Investment Partner Limited; Md. Kamruzzaman Babu, Managing Director, ARORA Agri Business Private Limited; Shah Mubin Zinnah, Executive Director, CDA and Aminur Rahman, General Secretary, Babrijhar Pallitathya Kendra. Sk.Masudur Rahman, Senior Program Officer, D.Net was playing the Moderator role on the workshop.

Using technology and high quality seeds which BWRI invented can make change for the farmers. Present different groups discuss their roll in this process. PK will arrange some initiatives to make communication for the farmers with different groups. BWRI will provide soil test service, high quality seeds and necessary advice for growing the wheat. ACI will buy wheat and farmers can sell their crops to the buyer with the market price which will ensure their security. D.Net and ARORA will monitor the whole process and assist where it requires. At the end of the workshop all groups decided their duties and have a work plan for this initiatives and farmers committed to grow wheat in their field. This may change the life of the farmers and hope to make a revaluation in the farming sector.
